EAGLES OVER LONDON new cover artwork

Coming from Severin Films on July 28, here is the revised artwork. It will also be out on blu-ray.

From the Director of INGLORIOUS BASTARDS - The Battle of Britain, Castellari Style!

Nine years before his WWII classic THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, Emzo Castellari virtually invented the 'Macaroni Combat' genre with this over-the-top sage of valor, vengeance and machine-gun mayhem. Hollywood legend Van Johnson (THE CAINE MUTINY) and Frederick Stafford (Hitchcock's TOPAZ) star as military officers pursuing a merciless team of Nazi saboteurs through war-ravaged London, featuring Castellari's jaw-dropping recreations of the evacuation of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and more.
Francisco Rabal (NIGHTMARE CITY) and Ida Galli (THE PSYCHIC) co-star in this explosive epic - also known as BATTLE SQUADRON - now restored in stunning High Definition and available on DVD for the first time ever in America!

More Edwige Fenech on DVD in August 2009!

Coming from new company Thunder Island Releasing on August 11, 2009 - Asso aka Ace (Franco Castellano/Giuseppe Moccia, 1981)
On his wedding night, of all times, a husband appropriately named "Ace" (Adriano Celentano) gambles away the night at a local bar - and wins a handy amount of money. As Ace heads home to his waiting bride Silvia (Edwige Fenech), he is killed by a hired gun. When he reappears to see his wife, he has a hard time convincing her that only she can see him - he is definitely invisible to everyone else, and definitely quite dead. Aghast at his wife's determination to go to work as a dancer on the stage, he undermines her rehearsal and then connives to get her married off to an appropriately aged and wealthy banker. So the next question arises: Is there divorce after death? Widescreen, Italian language with optional English subtitles.

SERIOUS CHARGE coming from VCI in June

Terence Young's drama SERIOUS CHARGE from 1959 will be released by VCI on June 30, 2009.

The unmarried vicar Reverend Howard Phillips (Anthony Quayle), newly arrived in a parish, accuses a local 19 year old thug and petty criminal (Andrew Ray) of being partially responsible for the recent death of a teenage girl. In retaliation and as an attempt to divert attention, the teenager accuses the vicar of making sexual advances towards him. His invented story is substantiated out of spite by another local woman still furious that the vicar rejected her amorous advances. Unfortunately for the vicar, the woman is a highly respected member of the community, her father being the parish s previous clergyman.

New release date for ULYSSES DVD

The 1954 peplum ULISSE aka ULYSSES, directed by Mario Camerini (and allegedly also Mario Bava) and starring Kirk Douglas, has finally been given a new release date from Lions Gate - August 4, 2009.

Three-time Academy Award® nominee Kirk Douglas (Champion, 1949; The Bad and the Beautiful, 1952; Lust for Life, 1956) and two-time Academy Award® winner Anthony Quinn (Viva Zapata!, 1952; Lust for Life, 1956) star in Homer's adventure classic Ulysses, one of the greatest epics of world literature available in all-new packaging. Ulysses leaves his faithful wife behind as he goes off to fight in the Trojan Wars. Having the poor taste to set himself above the gods after a stunning military victory, Ulysses is doomed to journey aimlessly across the sea until he can make amends. Along the way, our hero battles a Cyclops, resists the fatal singing of the Sirens, and enjoys a brief interlude with a seductive enchantress. Years later, he returns to his wife, who has long thought him dead, and must master one final challenge.

On June 22, Network DVD will release CAMPBELL'S KINGDOM, directed by Ralph Thomas in 1957.

Campbell’s Kingdom is the story of a young Englishman, Bruce Campbell, who has been given six months to live, and who travels to the Canadian Rockies to take over an inheritance of land from his grandfather. The old man had been alone in his conviction that there is oil in his ‘Kingdom’, and Bruce determines to devote his last remaining months to proving his grandfather right. He meets with determined and unscrupulous opposition from almost everyone in the area, and the leader of a construction gang, Owen Morgan, is prepared to attempt anything to stop the oil-drilling venture… including murder.

Dirk Bogarde (The Servant) stars as the driven young man who refuses to allow a family dream to die with him in this powerful adaptation of Hammond Innes’ best-selling novel. Campbell’s Kingdom features a screenplay by BAFTA winner Robin Estridge and a strong supporting cast, including Stanley Baker (Hell Drivers), Barbara Murray (The Power Game) and Michael Craig (Sea of Sand) – and one of the most thrilling and spectacular climaxes ever seen on the screen.

On June 8, Naughty DVD will release Nuits chaudes de Justine directed by Jean-Claude Roy in 1976.

Mik Farez (Philippe Gaste) is an out of work 'serious' film director. A sleazy producer with a mirrored floor and a naughty and knickerless secretary offers him the chance to direct a new movie, but he’s told that it must be a sex film. With just one evening to come up a script, Mik is bereft of ideas. However, following a steamy sex session with his willing wife, the kinky couple dream up all manner of sexy scenarios for the movie. These are portrayed as a series of erotic and often amusing vignettes, each of which revolves around a cute young girl in black stockings called Justine, whom they have recently seen performing in a nude ballet...

Spaghetti western double feature from Alpha

On May 26, Alpha Video will release Il mio nome è Shangai Joe (Mario Caiano, 1972) and Vado... l'ammazzo e torno (Enzo G. Castellari, 1967). Since Alpha are known for their horrible PD releases, these films might be shoddy full screen pan & scan... who knows?

Camillo Bazzoni's COMMANDO SUICIDA on English-friendly DVD

These are not new releases, but I thought they might be of interest anyway since they are both English-friendly. Camillo Bazzoni directed this war "epic" in 1968 and features Aldo Ray, Tano Cimarosa and Frank Brana. The german release was put together by MCP and the Czech release by Ritka Video. Both releases should be in the correct aspect ratio and with English audio, but only the German one seems to be anamorphic.

EDIT: The German DVD is non-anamorphic 1.85:1, but OAR is 2.35:1...

New spaghetti western 2-fer from Wild East Productions

Inginocchiati straniero... I cadaveri non fanno ombra!

Quel maledetto giorno d'inverno... Django e Sartana all'ultimo sangue

Both films directed by Demofilo Fidani in 1970. Coming soon...
